A well placed lesson she’ll never get

We did it! Jaden is signed up for a “School Readiness Program”. Basically a bastardized pre-school. She’ll go two days a week for two hours each day. We’re still going to look into getting her into a full day program but only once a week.

The two hour classes aren’t a bad deal: $91 a month and they run the length of the school year and she’ll be able to go with her cousin so that’ll be nice for both of them.

The first payment was due at registration and I gladly paid it. Then I realized how tight things are right now and thought, “Jaden’s got $X in her savings right now. Why not make her responsible for this first of many school payments? After all, that’s what the money’s there for.” Of course, when we set it up we meant college but this is a “school readiness program” so it’s a step in the right direction. Long story short, she paid her first month’s tuition.

She’ll never know the important life lesson we taught her today: “As much as your parents want to give you everything, sometimes you have to help yourself.”

  1. When she’s fourteen and hating school, she’ll probably wish you had spent that money on a puppy. But for now, money well spent! She’s going to have a great time! Plus you don’t have to get up at five a.m. to feed and walk a School Readiness Program.

  2. We’ll probably be making a similar financial “shuffle” in the fall; I think The Toddler has more $ in her accounts right now than we do! 😦
